A Republican House candidate in California was attacked over the weekend by a man upset with the President and politics, police said.
According to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at the Castro Valley Fall Festival Sunday afternoon and ended without serious injuries.
The suspect, Farzad Vincent Fazeli, was arrested on charges of making criminal threats, exhibiting a deadly weapon and possessing a switchblade.
Rudy Peters who is running for the 15th Congressional District of California is the alleged victim in the matter.
Peters appeared on Fox News’ ‘The Ingraham Angle’ to discuss violence against Republicans and described the violent incident from beginning to end.
Rep. Steve Scalise who was shot last year at a Republican-based baseball game also appeared on the show.
Tuesday, Peters’ Democratic opponent Rep. Eric Swalwell spoke about the incident via Twitter saying he was glad Peters was unharmed and condemning “the use of violence to settle political disagreements.”
On Sunday, my opponent @PetersCongress was attacked at his campaign booth in Castro Valley. I’m glad to hear Mr. Peters is okay. But it’s NEVER okay to use violence to settle political disagreements (or any disagreement). Fortunately, @ACSOSheriffs arrested the suspect. tweet
