Couple Locks Puppy in Trunk While Shopping

A Florida couple was arrested over the weekend after they reportedly locked a puppy in the trunk of their car to go shopping.

The incident occurred Sunday in Panama City, Florida.

According to The Panama City News Herald, 30-Year-old Maurice Sanders and Keshanna Thompson were seen by another shopper placing the puppy into the trunk of their vehicle before walking into the Dillard’s at the Florida Mall. The shopper then contacted authorities.

When officials arrived to the scene, they reported that they could hear the puppy panting in the trunk and decided to break the vehicle’s back window to gain access to the trunk to free the puppy.

They also reported that Sunday afternoon was extremely hot and the puppy was left with no food or water.

When the couple exited the store they told authorities that they put the puppy in the trunk because they did not want to mess up the inside of the car.

The couple has since been charged with aggravated animal cruelty and the puppy was placed in the care of animal control.
