Actor George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney have announced that they plan to donate $500,000 to the March for Our Lives in support of the students of Stoneman Douglas High School where 17 people where killed when a gunman opened fire on the campus February 14th.
“Amal and I are so inspired by the courage and eloquence of these young men and women from Stoneman Douglas High School,” George Clooney said in a statement on Tuesday. “Our family will be there on March 24 to stand side by side with this incredible generation of young people from all over the country, and in the name of our children Ella and Alexander, we’re donating $500,000 to help pay for this groundbreaking event. Our children’s lives depend on it.”
The rally was organized by five teenagers survivors of the massacre who are advocating for stricter gun laws after the gunman and former student was able to legally purchase an AR-15 weapon despite his mental health background. The rally is set to take place March 24th in Washington, D.C. However, there are other rallies set to take place throughout the U.S in conjunction with the nonprofit, Everytown for Gun Safety.
