A jury of your deceased peers? One local woman says it happened with her brother.
According to Serafina Sprague, she recently received a jury summons. She says, “It was for my brother. My brother’s name is Peter DiBenedetto. The unfortunate part is my brother is deceased.” He died in 2003.
Sprague called the jury office and was told to check the appropriate box on the form. She added, “I said it’s not that simple. There was no box that said he was dead.”
Sprague was also told to provide a death certificate but refused to do so, since she figured the government should have already known her brother was deceased.
The DMV says that DiBenedetto was never removed from its records, although they send a list of deceased drivers to the Clerk’s office each month.
