According to the report, when police arrived, they found Stopler carrying two containers of gasoline and reported that he had already dumped several other containers of gasoline down one of the buildings trash chutes. Stopler also reportedly purchased two electric fans which he planned to use to help increase the flames and purchased two padlocks to put on the fire hoses to prevent the fire department from using the hoses to put out the fire.
Stopler told authorities he was motivated to burn down the building because of an upcoming eviction and because he was angry about his Jewish neighbors. He told authorities that he wanted to “kill all Jews.”
Investigators also found swastikas and books of Nazi ideology in Stopler’s home.
Stopler has since been arrested and is charged with first-degree attempted arson.
