A mentally ill woman has been arrested for destroying a more than 100-year-old church cemetery in Northern, Florida.
The incident occurred Tuesday night in Hillsborough County.
According to the report, an employee of the Unity African Methodist Episcopal Church cemetery spotted the woman identified as 35-year-old Channon Marie Clarkson, roaming around the graveyard pulling up headstones and removing engraved templates from several of the grave sites.
When authorities arrived, they first spoke with the pastor of the church about the incident and were told that it is believed that Clarkson suffered from a mental illness.
Authorities then confronted Clarkson and found her with several angels and flower holders from the grave sites stuffed in her purse.
Clarkson has been charged with removing, disfiguring, destroying, or injuring a tomb as well as grand theft in the third degree. She is currently being held on a $4,000 bond.
