Friday, an Idaho teacher accused of feeding a sick puppy to a snapping turtle in front of students was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty.
The alleged incident happened March 7. and was investigated by the Idaho attorney general’s office after several parents came forward.
Several weeks later, state officials seized the turtle and euthanized it as a non-native species.
Preston Junior High School science teacher Robert Crosland faces up to 6 months in jail and a $5,000 fine if convicted.

Crowland reportedly still works at the school, Preston School Board Chairwoman Joy Christensen said that the district would wait for criminal proceedings to conclude before deciding Crosland’s future.
