A TV weather reporter is facing criticism and parody, after a Hurricane Florence broadcast for the Weather Channel shows him apparently exaggerating the strength of the storm’s winds.
In video of the broadcast, Mike Seidel appears to struggle to stay upright in North Carolina, as two people casually walk behind him.
In the shot, Seidel tells viewers of the weather conditions, “This is about as nasty as it’s been.”
A Weather Channel spokesperson responded: “It’s important to note that the two individuals in the background are walking on concrete, and Mike Seidel is trying to maintain his footing on wet grass, after reporting on-air until 1am this morning and is undoubtedly exhausted.”
Numerous parodies have appeared online since the original broadcast went viral.
The deadly storm, which has been downgraded to a tropical depression, made landfall along the Carolinas on Friday, bringing extreme flooding in what some are describing as a “thousand-year rain event.”
