What Color are These Strawberries?

We have another internet debate on our hands!

Japanese ‘experimental psychologist’ and Professor of Psychology, Akiyoshi Kitaoka, posted a photo of a brunch of Strawberry to Twitter and the internet is freaking out.

Everyone agrees that they see a blue filter over the whole picture, however, what no one seems to be able to agree on is, what color the strawberries appear to be.

Some viewers say they are seeing the strawberries brown or chocolate covered, while others believe they are seeing red strawberries.

Kitaoka says that though some believe they are seeing red, the reality is there is not one single red pixel in the picture.

Bevil Conway of the National Eye Institute says the picture is an example of how your brain is  ‘colour correcting the world’ when it is filtered through a different light.

For example, ‘If you take a red apple outside under a blue sky, there are more blue wavelengths entering your eye.’

So in a some sense the, color is contaminating everything you see.
